We can have all the training and certificates in the world, years of experience, know everybody and everything!

BUT, if we are not thinking about what we are doing “At that time” it is very likely we could have an accident. We call this being “Present in the moment” please take the time to watch the attached video to help understand what I mean.

This video demonstrates that when people concentrate so hard on the task they are undertaking they can lose perspective on other things going on around them, it’s a bit like the mobile phone zombies that walk our streets, put a lamp post in front of them and they don’t see it!

A Fifth of bosses are not health and safety trained!

One in five line managers are not trained in health and safety, a recent poll undertaken by YouGov identified that 96% of respondents agreed that line managers are important in preventing work-related accidents and ill health, 19% said their organisations do not train them in health and safety.

The research polled almost 700 company decision-makers from a range of sectors.

A further fifth of respondents (21%) reported that investigations into accidents had shown that management failure was a contributing factor. Yet the majority (82%) appeared to acknowledge the business benefits of investing in externally provided health and safety courses.

This person had never erected a mobile alloy tower, he had not used the instructions as there were none delivered!

Although the works had been agreed, the owner of the building was not aware this work was being undertaken on this day and was not supervising!

No checking was undertaken to see if he was competent in erecting the tower

He was very lucky no accident occurred, no method statement was in place and no risk assessment carried out.

The owner was alerted to this and he stopped the works, it was later re-started and all correct measures were undertaken.

The owner was not aware of his legal duties in this operation?
